Dope fashion, with a dope storyline

Many people watched the movie Dope a few months ago when it was in theatres and it seemed like people really loved the movie (like me) or they hated the movie but no one can say that the fashion wasn't on point. The the main characters in this movie dressed in 90's fashion and I wish we all still dressed like this.

Shameik Moore, Tony Quinonez and Kiersey Clemons played their roles well, being considered "nerds" but also had a keen eye for fashion. Zoe Kravitz and A$AP Rocky had big roles in this movie as well, and everyone knows those two run the fashion world right now.  Yes, fashion was a huge part of this movie, along with the soundtrack, but I really liked the storyline.

Not many can relate to what these kids had to go through, but personally growing up in the hood allowed me the ability to understand or at least grasp what the average kid has to deal with in some parts of Los Angeles. Growing up, I was considered weird because I dressed weird, loved to write, enjoyed listening to classical music, jazz (also hip-hop) and was in the Boy Scouts. I also had to avoid certain areas and still do, because of gang activity or not being able to wear what I want because of the color. The only thing that I really had in common with everyone was playing basketball, and running track, oh yeah and being black.

I think that this movie could be revolutionary for my generation if people would look past the drug dealing aspect of the movie and look deep and find the hidden meanings within. It's crazy what some of us have to do to get out of where we grew up. I was fortunate enough to have parents that cared a lot about my future, so they directed me in the right direction and it wasn't as hard for me to excel past what people expected out of people in my neighborhood. However, it still wasn't easy for me and still remains hard to get away from tags society wants to place on me because of where I grew up (NE Oklahoma City) and my image (tattoos and piercings). I also have many friends that struggle getting out of trouble based on the fact that either they don't have as much parental support or gang/drug activity runs so deep in their bloodline that they don't even bother trying to do anything different because of pressure from family members to keep the tradition going.

People really just need to take notice, there are good and intelligent people growing up in some of the worst places in the world, many of which are better qualified for positions than people that grew up in the best neighborhoods or suburbs.

Media Ethics Conference

This past Thursday I attended the "Ethics in Broadcast section of the Media Ethics Conference with Evan Anderson, and Keaton Fox as the panelists. They discussed what to expect in broadcast and what to do and what not to do in certain situations. There were plenty of situations that I think apply to blogging as well, like watching what you post on your personal social media site, which also leads into what part of the segment meant the most to me. I am very active on social media; Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook and I've caught myself multiple times posting things that I probably shouldn't post. With our career and position in society, we are seen as public figures in many instances and should act accordingly on social media sites. You never know who is following you and you never know who will take something that you said (that doesn't mean anything serious to you, serious. There really weren't any parts of the segment that I didn't find useful, the panelists were very helpful, answered my every question and also gave me advice and contact information for the future.

NFL Week 4: Winners and losers

Losers:

Cincinnati Bengal DE Domata Peko

Yeah, I am not too sure what Peko has on. It seems as if he's trying to pull of a junior in high school look. He could be going for a relaxed look, but its definitely not a look that's appealing to anyone I know. Definitely not something that I think he should wear going into "work" but hey I guess I shouldn't say a word because his team is now 4-0 and first in their division.

Kansas City Chiefs O-Guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif
HEY BOO BOO! LEMME.... Never mind. I think everyone gets what I am trying to say here. He's not sloppy, but he looks like he's on his way to a family reunion in Alabama. Definitely not a fan of this outfit at all. The team hat tops it off, and officially makes Tardif my fashion loser of the week. It doesn't help that his team is 1-3 now, and not doing too hot.

Winners:

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins
My father may just kill me for choosing a Washington Redskin as my fashion winner for this week but this is a  clean suit. It's casual enough where he won't catch much slack from conservatives there in D.C. for being too extravagant in his dress, but it's suave enough to receive recognition. This has really been a good year for this guy honestly, took RG3's spot, and just beat the Philadelphia Eagles (who obviously aren't good, at all) and are now 2-2 on the season which is a respectable record considering their expectations.

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green
I really like this fit from A.J. Green, it works. Yeah its not too dressy, it's kind of casual but its very stylish plus, the Bengals needed to redeem themselves. Maybe his teammate Domata can learn a little bit from Green. You can be casual and laid back but still be stylish, obviously.
